Things made at the Hina Doll Workshop

Things made in the Hina Doll Workshop [Hinasei Hina Dolls]

Hina Dolls Fujieda City

I love Japaneseness!

This is where the only old-style Japanese-style Hina doll set in the Hina doll industry began!
I love Japan! I love old townscapes!
Hinamatsuri is an ancient Japanese event.

Hinasei's goal
In this era when the city is changing to a Western style...

Japanese cityscapes and Japanese houses are becoming increasingly Westernized.
And the modernization of cityscapes is the same all over the world.

What is Hinamatsuri? I want to celebrate Hinamatsuri in a way that feels Japanese!
I was thinking, what kind of flavor can Hinasei create for the Japanese Hinamatsuri?

Around that time, one person made a request...

A streetscape that is typically Japanese.
When I see a townscape like this, I feel like I'm back in the good old days.

I remember when I was a kid...

When I go to visit Shimada's grandfather's house, I remember spending time with the whole family in the dimly lit house.

There was a hearth and firewood was burning, making a crackling noise.
Memories of the warmth of this house...

So nostalgic! This is what Hinamatsuri looks like.
If I were to have a Hinamatsuri for my beloved daughter, I would want it to be something like this.

The craftsmanship workshop was started from a request from just one woman for Hinamatsuri.

What's more, can't we provide Hina dolls in the old streets of Kyoto?

A group that makes Hina dolls called "Hinasei Kobo"

The atmosphere is like that of Kyoto...

The materials used in the Hina doll industry up until now have not been able to add flavor.

How can we create this kind of feel for our Hina dolls?
No matter how much we processed existing materials or how hard we tried, we always failed.

Therefore, we changed to processing materials that are as natural as possible.
What ingredients will you use? How will you flavor them?

Days of trial and error continued at the Hina Doll Workshop.

By chance, I was visiting Kyoto for a different reason.
I noticed this when I saw the restoration of the shrine.
Natural cedar wood was used and the surface was processed to give it a brand new, plain wood appearance.
The warmth of the wood grain.
I see! I just need to use cedar as the material to speed up the oxidation.

Selection that makes the most of the grain of the wood.
The soot that burns in the hearth is then used.
By going through these processes, we were able to create the atmosphere of an old Japanese house.

There, we use as many natural materials as possible in their natural forms...

After several years of work, they finally arrived at a material that evokes the atmosphere of an old-fashioned Japanese home, using an abundance of domestic cedar wood and selecting only the best parts.

In pursuit of Japaneseness, we arrived at a traditional Japanese style Hina doll

The material is natural cedar wood. Some of the trees are over 30 years old.
The grain of the wood gives off the warmth of warm wood.

This is a popular Hina doll folding screen and display stand.

It is true that when you are particular about the wood material and use special processing techniques, it becomes difficult to produce large quantities in the workshop.

First of all, I just want people who like me.

Do not mass produce

However, at our Hina Doll Workshop, we never seek mass production or mass sales.

We would like to deliver carefully crafted Hina dolls to anyone who is willing to purchase , even if it is just a small amount.

Yes, that's what I was hoping for.

At first, it was difficult for our technology to be recognized by the world, but now, after years of accumulated experience, it has come to be recognized as our technology and uniqueness.

We chose cedar wood from the nearby mountains, which are close to the large volume of water of the Oi River.

This region is home to the famous top-brown Kawane tea.
The atmosphere contains a lot of moisture which encourages the growth of trees.

The cedar trees that grow in this region are the backbone of this plant.
This is then further seasoned and processed to create folding screens and display stands for Hina dolls.

So we are switching away from imported materials.

We use real materials instead of the printing materials that are commonly available.
It is an old-fashioned Hina doll that generously brings out the warmth of wood.

This old-fashioned Japanese-style Hina doll folding screen and stand were created with the idea of never producing large quantities and only producing high-quality items.

Nowadays, due to my position, I don't interfere much in what goes on at the work site.
I left it up to my staff and trusted them to do their jobs responsibly.

In fact, my other duties have increased so that I can concentrate on my role as president.
I am grateful for the growth of my staff, which allows me to do this.

Appreciate the growth of our staff

Co-produced and planned

To be honest, the moment we release a new standard product into the world is extremely tiring.
It takes a lot of wisdom.
However, the joy of having your project recognized by the world and being able to work is even more gratifying.

This customer was happy. I was able to make that family happy!

What a joy to be able to meet you at such a moment!

Without forgetting this feeling, we continue to work hard and diligently to improve our products in our Hina Doll workshop.
